Well, just as pure speculation, suppose the Chinese government decided that disrupting American market hegemony is in their strategic best interests. What better way to do that than to make this sort of technology open source?

I refer of course to tech Mark at hegemony. But clearly, it isn't a stretch to see how disrupting that tech market will have profound consequences across the American sphere of influence

open societies are better at coping with disruptions. i love Chinese culture and think really highly of them but their society is directed from top down and always has been likely always will be. in common with the USA they have a real desire for wealth-getting, benevolence (yes) and a desire to leave a better world for the future. sometimes fuckers really are generous in hopes it might be repaid someday and sometimes it is.
